5 rounds Swiss pairing  

(S/D 30 minutes per player)

Entry Fee:

$10.00 per player

 

Medals will be awarded to the top three players in each grade.  The top three players in each grade will be guaranteed a place at the Provincial Tournament to be held at Hatcher House at Memorial University in St. John’s in March 2005.  More players will qualify according to the  Canadian Chess Challenge Qualifying Rules.  The Nationals will be held in Ottawa, in May, 2005.

One half point bye may be requested per player for any round except the last round.  The request must be made in advance of pairings for the round.  Late comers will receive zero point byes for the rounds missed unless a bye was requested in advance.  Tie breaker games will be played on the clock with 15 minute per player.   In the event that a tie break game is drawn then the result will be decided by speed chess with 5 minutes per player.   Tournament director will be Mr. Bob Gregory.

There will be a canteen service service  (hot dogs, pop, chips, etc.) but there will be no special breaks between any of the rounds.

Important Note to Parents:

All tournament participants must be supervised by a parent or designated guardian. Neither the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association (NLSCA) nor Cowan Heights Elementary School will be held responsible for the safety or behaviour of participants not actively engaged in tournament play. The responsibility of the tournament organizers will be limited to ensuring fair competition in accordance with NLSCA tournament rules.
