Vanier Fall Chess Tournament

Sunday November 21st, 2004

 

Venue:

Vanier Elementary School, Ennis Avenue, St. John’s

 

 

Registration:

9:15 AM to 9:45 AM

Lunch:

No formal lunch break.  Canteen service available.

Finish Time:

Approximately 3:00 PM.

 

 

Format:

5 rounds Swiss pairing

30 minutes per player per game.

 

 

Entry Fee:

$10.00 per player

 

The tournament will be open to all grades (K-12).  Each player will compete in one of the following sections:

 

Section 1

Kindergarten to Grade 3 players

rated less than 400 or unrated

Section 2

Kindergarten to Grade 3 players

rated 400 or more

Section 3

Grade 4 to Grade 12 players

rated less than 600 or unrated

Section 4

Grade 4 to Grade 12 players

rated 600 or more

Provided that an explicit request is made during registration (a) players from Section 1 may elect to play in Section 2 and players from Section 3 may elect to play in Section 4.

 

Medals will be awarded to the top three players in each section.  There will also be certificates for best performance in each section and best performance by an unrated player.  Finalist Pins will be awarded to all other players engaged in tie-breaker games.

 

A canteen service available hotdogs, chips, pop/juice etc.     The “Bring a Friend” reward applies to this tournament.  See the NLSCA web site for details.  (http://www.chess.nl.ca).

 

Important Note to Parents:

All tournament participants must be supervised by a parent or designated guardian.  Neither the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association (NLSCA) nor Vanier Elementary School will be held responsible for the safety or behaviour of participants not actively engaged in tournament play.  The responsibility of the tournament organizers will be limited to ensuring fair competition in accordance with NLSCA tournament rules.  (See http://www.chess.nl.ca for more information).
